Composite poker chips can be divided into two catagories; casino or profession grade poker chips and home grade poker chips.
Casino grade poker chips are professional poker chips and are manufactured by Nevada Jacks here in the USA. Nevada Jacks utilizes a 'natural' feeling substance giving their chip a clay feel and sound. Taking advantage of modern technology, these poker chips are mold injected which reduces the time and cost compared to compression molded clay poker chips. Another advantage these professional poker chips have over their clay counterpart is their ability to accept attractive full-face graphics. Nevada Jacks produces 3 distinct designs… the Nevada Jack ‘Skull’ Chip, the classic Desert Sands and the American Beauties poker chip sets. And if these 3 designs do not suit your taste, we offer custom poker chips.

Home grade composite poker chips are mostly imported poker chips. These low cost, mutli-colored chips are made of PVC and molded in China. Their mass production makes them widely available throughout the world at sometimes extremely low prices. They frequently weigh 11.5 to 13+ grams. These poker chips are heavier than true casino poker chips. This doesn't make them better... just heavier and cheaper and therefore not casino grade. This type of chip, although never recommended over a casino grade product, may be appropriate for the occasional home player.
